Italy Gambling Tax Revenue Tops €3 Billion in H1 2026

Italy's gambling sector generated over €3.04 billion in tax revenue for the national budget during January–June 2026, according to data from the State General Accounting Department cited by iGaming Brazil.
Slot machines remained the largest contributor, with the PREU levy on the segment bringing in €2.44 billion, roughly 80% of the total. This figure represents a 6% decline compared to the first half of 2025, when the segment generated approximately €2.6 billion. Other verticals added further revenue, including €929.5 million from instant lotteries, €584.6 million from Lotto, and more than €200 million combined from the telematic network and bingo segments. Separately, authorities expect to collect approximately €807 million in non-tax revenue from the betting sector as part of adjustments to the 2026 budget.
The figures underscore the gambling industry's growing weight in Italy's public finances even as its largest segment, slot machines, continues to contract year-on-year. The trend follows recent regulatory tightening in the market: Italian media regulator AGCOM recently strengthened requirements for responsible gambling campaigns, mandating that operators ensure risk-related messaging does not function as disguised brand advertising. Together, the fiscal and regulatory developments point to a market under closer government scrutiny on both revenue and marketing fronts.
