Brazil Freezes $211M in Assets Tied to Pixbet Operator

Laura Whitcombe

Brazil's Ministry of Finance, together with law enforcement agencies, launched Operation Arena on August 13 against a group of companies linked to iGaming operator Pixbet, according to a report by g1. Investigators suspect the group of illegally transferring currency abroad and laundering betting proceeds through foreign corporate and financial structures.

During the operation, investigators conducted 19 searches across five states, including Pixbet's headquarters, and secured a court order freezing assets worth up to $211 million. Authorities also gained access to banking records and correspondence belonging to those under investigation, and seized a vehicle and phone belonging to Pixbet owner Ernildo Junior. On the same day, the Ministry of Finance issued a separate ruling suspending Pixbet's operations along with its domains pix.bet.br, ganhei.bet.br, and betdasorte.bet.br, citing the company's failure to submit required reporting.

Pixbet did not provide the regulator with information necessary for monitoring and oversight, and as a result must now cancel all accepted bets and refund players' funds. A fine of approximately $38,300 per day has been set for non-compliance. The case underscores intensifying regulatory scrutiny of Brazil's betting sector following its 2024 legalization, with authorities signaling that operators failing to meet reporting obligations face significant financial and operational consequences.
