Play’n GO is exploring a possible sale to a major gaming business focused on regulated markets, according to a November 5 report by NEXT.io.
Sources cited by the publication identified Aristocrat, Genting and Light & Wonder as potential acquirers. Their inclusion does not establish that any of the companies has submitted an offer or entered negotiations. Play’n GO co-founder and CEO Johan Törnqvist declined to comment.
The report comes shortly after Play’n GO moved to stop distributing its games through major aggregators. According to NEXT.io, the supplier notified partners on October 29 that its titles would no longer be available through those channels.
The decision was intended to close distribution routes through which its games could reach markets without the required local authorisation. NEXT.io also reported that Play’n GO had withdrawn its operations from Asia towards the end of September.
Responding to the earlier distribution report, chief commercial officer Magnus Olsson said the company remained interested in working with businesses serving locally licensed markets with appropriate compliance arrangements. He described traffic reviews and enforcement measures as part of Play’n GO’s existing long-term strategy.
Sources cited in the aggregator report estimated that the withdrawal could cost Play’n GO tens of percent of its GGR, although their assessments differed. That estimate has not been confirmed by the company. next.io
The distribution changes provide context for the reported sale preparations, but Play’n GO has not publicly confirmed that they form part of a transaction process. A potential sale remains a reported possibility, with no buyer or agreement announced.
